Gensler is seeking a talented and innovative architect for a leadership position in the San Francisco office.
Role and Responsibility
The Retail Stores Practice Area Leader will have primary responsibility for the development of new business in the Retail Market, leveraging the capabilities of the firm in the NW/Asia Region and working with other leaders involved with design and client relationship management. Specific responsibilities will include design strategies, development of client and practice strategies, market positioning, and leadership within a design practice focused on retail stores.
Working throughout the United States and the Pacific Rim, Gensler plans, designs, and implements a full range of retail, from store design and rollout to retail architecture in premier urban settings. Gensler also provides brand development and merchandising design — everything from the customer experience to the logos, labels, and packaging.

Requirements
Candidates for the position should have a commitment to providing high-quality professional design services for clients in the retail market sector. In addition, candidates should have experience working within a creative and collaborative client-focused design environment.
The position requires at least 15 years of architectural experience, with a bachelor’s degree (or higher) in architecture, and a minimum of five years of experience in leadership positions within the retail market sector.
Candidates should be licensed architects. In addition, since Gensler places a high priority on sustainable design, LEED professional accreditation is preferred.
Candidates should be versatile, self-motivated, and articulate; be experienced in working successfully with others; and have excellent communications skills.
Candidates should be available to travel within and outside the USA. Fluency or proficiency in languages in addition to English is particularly advantageous.
In order to be considered for employment, candidates must be currently eligible to work in the United States.
Specific experience should include:
| • |
Experience developing relationships with new and existing clients that would enhance the firm's competitive advantage and positioning in the retail market sector.
|
| • |
Experience in the development and direction of store design and development, preferably including brand development and merchandising design.
|
| • |
Proven track record of success in working with retail clients, including participation in development of client relationships that lead to new and continuing business.
|
| • |
Proven leadership and management skills, including the ability to develop collaborative relationships that lead to successful results, whether within the firm (and across the platform of multiple offices) or externally — with clients, consultants, and other key participants in the design and development process.
|
| • |
Proven ability in creative strategy development and problem-solving.
|
| • |
Strong presentation skills (written, oral, and graphic), with the ability to be articulate and convincing in interviews and other presentations.
